Your Career vs. Your Job

The difference between your job and your career is very simple .... what you do to make money vs. what you do to make you happy. During these trying times it is imperative that you have some type of stable income coming in at all times. That's where the job comes in. Doing something that you wouldn't neccesarily want to do in order to keep the bills up to date. NOW, while financial stability is definitely a top priority, it should never be the your only priority. Staying true to who you are is the basic element in attaining & maintaining true happiness in your life. If you aren't happy with yourself, it's IMPOSSIBLE to be happy with or for anyone else. Doing what you love is something that you should never loose sight of, even if that passion can't completely cover all the bills right now. Make time to do whatever it is that you love, and that JOB won't seem so dreadful for the meantime because it isn't stopping you from being what you want to be. Look at it as a stepping stone ... so many people start off with the right idea and then begin to feel trapped within their surroundings. Feeling like there is no way out, so you complain while remaining complacent. DON'T. It is a trap within itself. If you think that this is it ... guess what?!?!? It is. Nothing will ever be able to hold you back unless you allow it to. In due time that passion will turn into more, simply because you get in what you put out.

I am a good example of your post. I work as an Accounts Manager during the day (bringing in consistant income) and I blog in my spare time. I really enjoy my bloging experience to the point that I would like to do it full time.

But after reading you post, I realize that I should keep the thing balanced.

All the best to you!

I love the post and you make really good points about our keeping in line with doing what we love. I haven't yet gotten to the point of sticking around with something that makes me unhappy though because I don't think there is anything that can balance unhappiness. It seems that when we stick through the unhappiness, it interferes with that which we love and there is an unequal balance.

Not that what you said doesn't ring true, I know it does, it's just a little bit (in my case) easier said than done...

Keep up with your wonderful posts.

Peace,
Traci

i def feel you. before i started my current career..i had a job. my parents weren't into the "i want to do music". so i had to go to school and work on plan A, while my music was my plan B. to them it was a hobby, to me it was what i wanted to do. i worked for a little over a year in my job before my hobby took off and became my career.

i'm with ppl 100% exploring their happiness and having a career over a job. but i'm also into ppl taking financial stability seriously. just like i had to do something that didn't completely make me happy, if you can't take care of yourself/family you should really stick to a job. don't give up what makes you happy, but unless it's only your mouth going unfed better keep that job.

So TRUE! when i started college i went into Nursing because i thought i would be able to have a JOB sooner, but really my passion was always psychology! Eventually my passion overwhelmed me & i changed my major; i might be in school for a much longer time, but the journey is much more enjoyable than reaching a stagnate destination only to find i should've done what i really LOVED from the beginning!!!

While nursing is a GREAT and admirable career, for me it would be a mere job...anything can be a job, no matter how prestigious! like you said, we have to do what we love & love what we do...

Thankfully, i'm already working in my feild & I LOVE IT!!!
